About The Diplomat Beach Resort

The Diplomat Beach Resort is one of South Florida's iconic beachfront destinations located near Miami and Fort Lauderdale, in Hollywood, Florida. This resort pairs breathtaking ocean views with exceptional design, amenities and entertainment. Here are some of the notable features of the resort.

Its History

The Diplomat Hotel/Motel was opened in 1958 and was the only hotel in its time that was located between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. At its inception, it only had 150 rooms and was named "The Envoy." It was quickly expanded to 350 rooms and renamed "The Diplomat." Rumors are Hollywood bigshots stayed at the hotel during the 60's and 70's as the venue was viewed as one of excellence. Unfortunately, due to financial problems, The Diplomat was closed and sold in 1991 and then demolished in 1998 in an effort to rebuild.

After the acquisition, Diplomat Properties, Ltd. designed a new 1,000-room convention center hotel. In 2002, the long-awaited opening of the new Westin Diplomat Beach Resort and Spa arrived. It featured 998 guestrooms (including 100 suites), a 240-foot, lagoon-style pool, an Executive Club Lounge on the 33rd floor and several dining options. The adjacent 209,000 square-foot Convention Center features a 50,000 square-foot unobstructed Great Hall and four ballrooms. The largest ballroom has a window with an ocean view that is 20-feet tall and 150-feet across. In 2014, the hotel expanded by adding the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa.

Restaurant & Bars At The Diplomat

There are six restaurants and bars located at The Diplomat Beach Resort. Here are the six.

  • Point Royal: A sit-down breakfast option for casual dining. Spacious tropical dining room. Also serves lunch. 
  • Counter Point: A spacious cafe that offers coffee, fresh juices, light breakfast and lunch items. Open 6 am to 8pm daily.
  • Playa: A Caribbean bar and grill with beautiful oceanfront views for casual dining. Has a bar and a poolside beachfront. Food service available from 11 am to 7 pm.
  • The Hotel Bar: Dine here for worldly cocktails and cuisine. Bar is poolside and open from 11 am to midnight with food service available from 4 pm to 10 pm.
  • Diplomat Prime: An award-winning boutique steakhouse for fine dining. Has a bar and lounge with complementary valet or self-parking for 4 hours.
  • The Canteen: Supply and trading company that offers convenience food and beverage items for hotel guests in a grab-n-go format. Open daily from 8 am to 10 pm.
